Scholarships
Fostering Futures of North Carolina is offering three scholarship opportunities. The first is for those pursuing a degree program in a traditional 4-year collegiate setting. The second is for those opting to pursuing a program at a community college, trade school, or professional certificate. The third will be for those needing to complete a GED. Details on denominations, criteria, and application process to be announced soon.
Sponsor-A-Senior
Senior year is a milestone year with so many things to celebrate. It also can be expensive. For kids in foster care, they may have to opt out of some of these moments because it isn't affordable. We plan to change that. Our Sponsor-A-Senior program is a fund dedicated to high school and college seniors where we will cover some of these expenses, whether it be testing fees, senior or graduation portraits, yearbook cost, cap and gown etc. We want these kids to be able to remember this milestone for what it's intended to be, a milestone year. To apply or nominate a senior in foster care, please do so here.
Sponsor-A-TEEN
FFNC has partnered with Alamance County's local DSS office and NC Links Teen Program. As a result of this partnership, we have been able to provide meals, teach life-skill courses, and get to know the teens and their needs in our community who are in foster care. Our goal is to continue to build those relationships, but we'd also like to do more. One huge need is quality-of-life items such as clothing, toiletries, and groceries. Therefore for our Giving Tuesday Initiative, we would like to flip the script. Instead of asking for money on Giving Tuesday, we would like to give back to these teens with a hot meal and a gift card to one of the large retail stores like Wal-Mart or Target that is a one-stop for all of the above-mentioned necessities. In addition to this, we would also like to use this as a learning exercise for our financial literacy course series that is currently underway.
Community Network
Everyone could use a little help sometimes. Having a support system can make life a lot easier. For kids in foster care or aging out of foster care, they often time lack that support system. Well, look no further, we are bringing that community to you. If you're a teenager in foster care, one that is about to age out, or has aged out and needs help, please reach out here so we can help.
Blessing It Forward
We know that kids aging out of foster care will potentially face obstacles that are outside of our scope and expertise. We also believe in blessing others and sharing those blessings. Therefore, we've created a program where 10% of all of our general donations, merchandise sales, fundraiser income, and funds raised through our retail partnerships will be donated each quarter. We will then donate that percentage to another local organization offering support and aid in those areas of potential obstacles.
